Hey All:

I'm building a 71 Dart as a street/strip car this winter. Here's the combo.

2001 5.9 shortblock
Edelbrock Performer RPM heads
Custom Comp Cam (224/230 @.050 - .533/.544 lift)
RPM Air Gap
TTI Headers
750 Holley (haven't bought this yet)
904 with reverse valve body
??? converter
4.11 gear
?? tire (whatever will fit, I guess. Planning on running a 26" tall)
I've got adjustable shocks, and Caltracs.

Any bets? My ultimate goal is to be able to run local 12.00 and 7.50 index classes.

Cam a little short on duration? Looks pretty mild for being over .5xx" lift. I could be wrong of course.

It was originally spec'd for the Magnum heads that came with the motor, but of course, they were cracked, so its probably smaller than ideal.

Maybe I should look to have a bigger one ground...

Your short on cam. Heres why. A few fellas here have in the past dropped in the create short blocks @ 10-1 and the create engines cam is a 292/.509 purple cam with the same equipment you have equiped your engine with. The best I have seen out of this combo on a preped "A" body car is 12.02.

It is possible though. Mikle Beck has done very well IMO with a small cam. It is a deadicated track car though. Zero street.

Your going to need to step up in cam quite a bit. I do think a 13.00 is there. SUb 13.00 should be possible, but it may depend on where you are, what your cars is and won't be. (AKA, how far you want to strip it down and make it a track car only.)

I do not remember the gear, tire size or stall converter, but they were set up for mostly strip duty. Not a full time track car. So there were things in these cars that a track car will not have. Heat/defrost, windsheild wipers, front passenger seat and rear seats, tunes, spare tire, etc.... you get the picture.

Whoah

13.0?

That's disappointing to hear.

I'm not used to the Mopar stuff yet, I guess, but I'm not used to it taking that much motor to hit the 12s.
