Pointy end towards the underside of the bolt head.

B !!! The idea is to spread the pressure out on the cast iron ears so you don't crack them off. Seal the end studs so they don't leak antifreeze!!!

The special washers allow exhaust manifolds do expand and contract during the heat cycles without having the fasteners lose their torque setting.

That makes sense. I got these manifolds from that company up in Washington state. Then I bought the hardware and then I bought the exhaust manifold gaskets. I hope they’re worth the money. Thank you !

The funny thing is, the factory did not install the washers on the two center/middle bolts, only on the two and two on either end. Aftermarket reproduction packages include enough washers for all the fasteners. Some exhaust gaskets have an aluminum/shiny side which also permits the expansion/contraction "slippage".

If you want to make sure this thing seals the first time, I'd recommend Remflex gaskets

I have those repro manifolds from Shaker and painted them with VHT manifold Hi Temp paint and after 2 years still look great. There in a 74 Duster with a 318. Make sure you read directions and follow heat cycle posted on can. I stay away from headers at all costs, because I don't race I just go cruising and like the longevity of cast iron manifolds. I even have repro cast manifolds on my gen2 hemi and after 17 years still look great because I had them Jett coated before installation.

VHT silver will come off on your hand for months if you don't heat treat them as instructed. VHT ceramicoat (?) in white was awesome. Heated it as described (started the motor and let it idle for 30 minutes with a few blips) and that stuff fused to the pipes. 3 years later those pipes were still rust free.

I followed can directions and never had a problem and I used Fel pro gaskets with no leaks. Use what you have for the gaskets, just torque bolts properly because there only 5/16". I used anti rust on the bolts and studs in the head and on the nuts.

What is the torque spec? I plan on using copper anti-rust/seize.

The bolt is 20 foot pounds and the nut is 15 foot pounds. As you can see not torqued too high.

        Pardon my ignorance...

I thought, at least in 67, That the exhaust manifolds were the same hp 273 to standard 273?

In what way are the shaker manifolds different?

Shaker was the name of the company I bought them from, I believe they also make Shaker parts for the Shaker hoods on E&B body cars. The manifolds are the Hi po 340 from 68-70.

By the way, those aren't just on "HiPo" engines...they're on 2 barrel engines as well as Slant 6's.

Look at the washer. Think of it as a spring, because believe it or not, it is. B
