Does anyone know anything about these? I just picked up a few carbs and this was with them. Looked around on the net but read conflicting info. Factory stock or aftermarket only?
Any info is appreciated:prayer:

Got a picture?

Pretty rare carb. Used back in the late 60s/early 70s by the so-called 'Supercar' shops like Baldwin Motion, Yenko, Nickey and Dana. Primary application was on 396 and 427 Camaros.
Vacuum-operated single secondary plate that covers the area of the two secondaries of a standard Holley 4-bbl.
There are a couple on eBay right now in the $400 neighborhood.
I mentioned a 3-bbl Holley carb at one of our Inland Mopars Car Club meetings a few years ago when we were talking about vintage speed parts - only us "experienced" guys knew what I was talking about. None of the younger members had any idea what we were talking about. LOL

Check out the new Street Demon for a modern-day 3-bbl carb.

Had one on my SS 396 375HP Chevelle. Awesome carb. However u need rear brls on intake opened as its massive.
I would think someone on the bowtie forums would kill for one. IIR they were available on 409's?

I have a 950 and they made a 1050 also. Most had a mechanical cam added and a double pump shot kit installed as a hop up kit.

Thanks guys. Cudafever- I'll get one on today. OC- thanks for the info. Supercar, hmm. No mopar application? The guy I got it from had it either on a 440 or a hemi.Meathead66- thanks for the advice. I'll see if someone with a Shovel-A needs one. It is kinda neat to look at. Would be agreat way to F with people. Put it on a shelf with the bottom showing. Thanks again guys!

They were also used on NASCAR engines a good bit back in the day. I sold mine a while back. If you look at older intake manifolds like the LD4B, LD340 and DP4B you'll see a notch at the rear of the center divider. Contrary to the "siphoning" theories behind this notch, it was completely physical for being there. It was there so the rear barrel of those old carburetors could open. No other reason whatsoever.

Never knew about the notch in the intake walls. HAve seen it but figured it had to do with air flow!

3 barrel was a novelty that really didn't live up to the hype. Can be a decent carb if you tune the secondaries to open slowly, but personally I think a regular 4150 or 4500 is a much better choice.
