Hood hinges??

Is there anything ( spacer or ????) that goes behind the hinge or between the hinge and the side of the firewall. Should they be tight against the side or is any play allowed... Oh yeah push nuts suck !!! 70 Duster FYI.. Thanks.

I had mine off a month ago and I don't recall there being any spacer in back of the hinges. If you wrecked your push nuts as I did, you can use half inch axle push nuts by Hillman part number H#880524. I got them at Home Depot. They have a white plastic cover on them. I had to take one of the covers off and trim the nut smaller with a tin snips so it would fit. I pushed it on with a 9/16 socket on the end of an extention. There is a lot of back and forth play on the hinges. That's just the way they are.

I have never seen any sort of spacer behind them. I have had 3 different car and no spacers
