I have noticed that a LOT of the cars that have the insulation panel removed from the under side of the hood. Is that done just for looks, or is there another reason? I am making plans to detail the area under the hood, and am thinking about removing the insulation before I paint. also wanting to install the 340 hood scoops, prolly need to remove it anyway? Any problems with removing it? What is it even there for?!

no, problem removing it. It was usally an option on most cars, and is mostly to help quiet engine noise.

First 67 we had didn't have under hood blanket. Sudden summer rain on the hood would look like engine overheating.

I believe it depends on the car and the the hood itself. If your going with scoops with the factory rubber grommets they didn't have the insulation. It was a noise deaden er and with holes in the hood what good would it do. Just my thoughts. Steve

I have seen Twisters with scoops and no fresh air induction holes with the hood pad installed from the factory.
