Hood Release Cable Broke

I haven't been able to find any information on this anywhere, and it's not addressed in either of the books I have. I have a 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger, and went I went to pull the hood release inside the car, it snapped off in my hand. The cable is severed right near the hood release handle. I tried following the cable up under the dash, but it goes up too far and looks like I'll need the hood open to replace it. Which sucks because I can't open the hood. Aaaand I don't know how to replace the cable and lever when I do get the hood open. Help?
 
holy crap i'm a retard. after freaking out for a couple of days trying to find info on how to open my hood and/or replace the cable, i actually went out and looked at the damn thing and realized i could just reach up and press the lever over. it's actually easier than getting in the car and pulling the cable. guess i still have to replace the cable though. so glad my first post could be a stupid one.

I didn't realize you could get your arm in there, but 'least you got er open.

THAT is not very secure, now is it?

Don't to feel to bad. You hang around here long enough and you will find that we all do retarded things once in awhile. You did noticed I said "we". LOL
