Hood Springs 1968 Dart

I have a problem with the driver side spring on my 1968 Dart. Inside the fender, near the front of the door just aheqad of the door hinges, there is a flat wound spring with a dog leg on the end. The dog leg is supposed to hook around a little metal peg. I suppose this keeps the spring tightly wound and under tension. Mine has somehow jumped off the peg and is doing nothing. Is anyone familiar with this problem and able to give me some insight to fix it? Is it tricky? It seems it will be difficult to manually get the spring wound back enough to re-hook it on the metal peg. I'm thinking the door or fender have to come off, maybe both. At this point the hood still stays up but the broken springs rattles like crazy when I drive.
