Went to my local Mopar wrecking (PLUG: Wildcat auto for all your Mopar needs) yard and got a complete set of black seatbelts out of a 68 GT. The Chrome is so so and fair for the age and the webbing is really nice, but, some of the Black textured buckles are starting to peal there coating. Does anyone one know how to dissasseble them? I'd like to clean them up and re paint them. Any good paint to reproduce the textured finish?

Thanks,

Dan

I don't know how they come part but if I could get them apart they would be at the powder coaters and you got something that will last and probably not much more then the time and money to get them ready for paint.

but thats just my .02

I didi get them apart, there are the two buttons on both sides of the pivot. One comes out, it is taped in with a splined shaft that is small and pretty delicate (don't ask me how I know). I have one apart and am working on a tool to help get them apart without breaking the splined piece in the shaft, as the pin still will not come as the torsion spring will be stuck and will not allow the pin to come put until the broken part is removed, forcing it will only damage the spring.

As per powder coating, the texture looks to be part of the metal stamping, so I'm gonna strip them, POR-15 them, and paint them up pretty like ;)
