How do you test an electronic control unit?

-
Most people swap it out and determin from there.
I know no real way of "bench testing" them.

If you have a small block (always tell us), look at the "ready-to-run" HEI distributor ($45 ebay). Many reviews here.

HEI gets rid of the ballast, which was needed with early electronic ignitions like the 70's Mopar. Simpler and stronger spark. Read Megasquirt for more idea. To go further, you need a toothed crank pickup wheel, like I put on my Dart. Then you can retrofit a Ford EDIS and perhaps GM LS coils, but both require a spark computer.

I'm a little biased since I'm the one that sells the kits. :)
But, hell yea HEI makes a big difference in the way the car starts and runs.

This is my website for the HEI kits. www.classichei.com
You would need the complete kit without the distributor.

The "ready to run" distributors and the HEI kits we sell use about the same changes in wiring of the original system, but the HEI kits use your existing distributor.

The "ready to run" distributors still need a E-coil to be HEI, so add that to the costs if you go that route.

Our kits come with the E-coil all prewired for you.

I bought and installed the trailbeast hei kit, I couldnt be happier with that set up. Thanks trailbeast for leading me in the right direction.
