Have not been to Chryslers at Carlisle since 2010. My friends went to All Ford at Carlisle this year, & were extremely disappointed. They all tell me the show has lost a large amount of the older car participants, & was largely new model Fords. My friends all own 50's/60's era Fords, & say that they will not bother to make the trip anymore, ending a tradition. I was wondering if the same trend was taking place at the Chrysler show. I don't disapprove of newer vehicle participation, but have always appreciated the large old Mopar population, & hope that it has not changed. We plan to drive Deb's Duster from Ma., & are looking forward to being back. Just curious as to your observations of the show over the last couple of years.

Last year was just to damn HOT....... about a 100 degrees everyday, except for Sunday. Most people were out early, and were all done for the day,
by 12 noon. Some were out after 5-6 PM when the sun started to go over. If we had not had some parts pre-sold for the show, we would have lost our a$$
for the whole trip. There is lot's of talk on all the different mopar sites, about vendors not going this year, ONLY because now it is MANDATORY you have a PA sales tax license to vend there at any show!! Carlisle Productions have already said, if you DO NOT have a sales tax license, you WILL NOT be allowed into the fairgrounds PERIOD!! There will be PA tax associates on the grounds that weekend for sure, that has been said. You would have to speak with somebody at Carlisle Productions, and maybe find out how many vendors maybe showing up. Last year, it seemed like there was alot of vendors....... just not many people there walking around, just TOO HOT!!!! I hope this year is much better. Good luck everybody.

If this is true, that is what killed Mopars at Englishtown. Town/Village revenue right down the toilet. It used to be the Mecca for parts in the early 90's. Now maybe 5 vendors and 2 car trailers with parts. 100% waste and I will never go again.

Looks like Carlisle doesnt give a crap and would have no problems shutting down the swap meets in the interest of????? County Fairs???? Farm Tractor Shows???

I guess Ohio will be the new place. How long before they tax them?

Whoa!! I plan on going this year and I hope it isn't a bust due to this new regulation. I can see it happening though. Another show is gonna turn to crap (I hope not) :(

I only noticed the car coral was getting smaller. Last year was 106 on saturday but better than pouring rain. Plenty of old iron. Was very nice. Been going for years/decades

Hi,

My wife and I drove Frankendart down from Ontario last year. LOTS of older Mopars and quite a few new ones too. Certainly much larger than anything here in Canada. Had a great time, but yep wicked hot!!

I chickened out at the last minute in 2012 due to the extreme heat. I'm only about 180 miles away in Pittsburgh. I've been going to the Chrysler show out there since it's second year in existence - 1993. This is the BEST all Mopar show in the U.S. The only thing the Mopar Nationals has over Carlisle is drag racing, which is a huge advantage. As far as show cars, cars for sale, and especially the swap area, Carlisle wins every category.

If it is anything like MATS in Las vegas Which I have gone too a few times, I have seen the older cars show up less and a lot more newer cars going. Also I hear people complaining about how MATS has been run. worse and worse every year. I wish I could make a Carlisle trip just to say that I have been to one. Hope this year is a good one for sake of the old Mopars.

As far as old iron goes, there is plenty of that. If they force every vendor to have a tax ID #, I'm afraid that the swap meet section will suffer.

Hot was an understatement. I hope for a no repeat of those temps this time around.

My buddy does a lot of business with the owner, hard to come down on him for all of the tax bs. They have been coming down on them for years getting worse every year. Its not really anything new to get a swap meet space you've had to provide a tax id for years. It was only a matter of time before the 'man' put the screws to them.

I can however blame them for the high price of admissions but again some of that is probably due to all of the other bs

Hopefully this year is nice weather last 3-4 years its either poured or been over 100

last year was great, but hot. as of have the tax number. it is no big deal you get a (i forget what its call) flea market tax number and at the end of the year you claim what you made. if you made noting you claim 0. Not to hard and you have a tax number and no one can brake your balls.

Yeah, I didn't think it was THAT big of a deal. For vendors pricing parts accordingly, there is money to be made at Carlisle - for sure.

It's Pennsylvania. I'm surprised they haven't started taxing all the local residents that park spectator cars in their yards for $10 a car. And them boy scouts that deliver parts with their carts for a small fee, they're deadbeats too.
Although I missed the show last year I haven't noticed a decline in attendance or quality of the Carlisle show in years past. I think Carlisle puts on a great organized car show.

Hey Harry,
Not sure yet. My daughter has a tournament all of that weekend in Wheeling,WV. The wife offered to handle the tournament running but I don't know if I want to miss her playing. Her tournaments are over in time for the Nats so its kind of a tradeoff.

ohio already taxes vendors. i did a toy show about 8 yrs ago, didnt make any money so i sent in the tax form with a big zero on it..got a nasty letter the following year stating that i owed 900 bucks. after many hours on the phone, many copies of various forms sent i thought i was done. this year i get a notice from them that i still owe money....i never did another show since..luckily, i dont live in ohio..i probably have a warrant out on me there

I've been going to Carlisle along time. I hope this new Pa. sale tax doesn't hurt a great Mopar show like this. It would be a shame to go and there are no venders with parts.

You people are making this a big deal. When it's not, it takes two minutes to get a vender tax number. Then you have nothing to worry about. Have it on you whey your there, its all good. At end off the year you call to report what you sold and if was nothing you just claim zero. if you made 300.00 its around 18.00. And they are happy and you have no worries go have some fun.

I agree Dave....... let's go and enjoy, and have some fun! I just received a cell phone call from the PA tax dept yesterday, and they left a voice mail saying " Please call us before this Fri. which is the deadline for filing the third and fourth quarters of 2012" I talked to them last late fall on that matter, as I only sell at Carlisle once a year, and she said she would take care of it, I figured done deal last year! So she calls my phone this morning, ask for my SS number, so she could verify my identity, and after a short discussion, she says quote" Ok, I guess we will take care of it". It's like, lady I'm being nice to you...... and she had just a slight attitude towards me!!

umm....so does the state of Penn. tax home owners if they have a tag sale in thier own yard? Seems a bit weird to me, sense most vendors are probably selling old used parts, they had in their garages. I can see vendors of brand new reproduction parts being taxed, sense it's a legit business and their a dealer, but used parts? really ??

I have read that "yes" you are supposed to pay tax, even for garage, yard or any other sale, at least that is what they say in my state. You would have to check with your own individual state to find out about what they say, your to pay tax on. I doubt anyone does....... and I'm not for it one bit, but you can thank the good ole USA and all of its associated governments for this. If you want to play.... you just gotta pay, just a little tax.......and their happy!

well the govt. sees it this way.. if you sell some parts here and there its a hobby. but when you start selling at every event.. its more than likely your business

thats what the taxman told me...

I would have to agree.. I personally enjoy going to the Nats more, just because of the drag racing. My wife enjoys the hobby, but swap meets arent her thing,.. she likes the drag racing, this way we get to both enjoy our vacation.. lol.. She has gone to Carlisle with me before, but thats not her thing... The guys are all talking about going this year, not sure if I am or not.. (gotta save my $ for the nats lol)
