Hi. Iam coverting to a AAR Fiberglass lift-off 6 Pak hood for my '68 Dart GT. Got the steel hood off. Now my question is how do I get the hinges and springs off??????????????????????? :help: Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

you'll have to pull the fenders off to get to the coiled spring on the hinge.

the hinges on my 68 were mounted on studs with clips keeping them on the studs, you can remove the clips with a flat blade screw driver by working it off.

might not be the best way but it works.

after that just slide the hinge off.

to get the springs off the hinges you might have to use a grinder or cut off tool
to get the sweaged metal of that holds the spring to the hinge look in the center of the spring

Yep, you have to remove the fenders to get at the hinges. Not one of Chryslers better ideas in regards to making it easy to work on. The A body unibodies didn't allow for mounting the hinge in the conventional sense like most cars. I think they wanted to give you as much room as possible under the hood without having the hinge being in the way. Just a thought.

It might actually be easier to pull the fenders first. I can tell you from experience that once the pushnuts are removed the hinges don't always slide stright off the pins. I have one that you have to pull out at the bottom from an angle to get it off the top pin. No way I can do it with with the fender on. And remember, the best access without pulling the fenders is to remove the inner splash shield which may be covered in undercoat.

Hey Guys. Thanks for the help!!! I had a feeling that the fenders had to come off. Not to hard. It's so easy working on these cars!!
