How to Remove Rubber Bushings

I need to remove shock absorber bushings without destroying them. Here is one way I guess:

Not sure why you need to do this, but it seems like a smart way to do this.

Seemingly if one or the other is worn out, a complete new unit seems smarter?

Just take your damn rings off before you start.....

when I gotta remove rubber bushings I usually take the component off the car (usually a control arm) stick it out in teh gravel driveway, and light the old rubber on fire..... done lots of them like this.

I ended using the tool in post #1 (borrowed from AutoZone).

I have yet to have to remove a bushing for some other reason than "needs replaced". so I dont care about destruction of the old ones.
