I have a broken hinge pin (passenger side) and need to weld/repair the trunk lid anyway. How does one remove the trunk lid with the early trunk prop that locks itself open, then unlocks itself when you raise the lid again? I did a quick search, did not find anything relevant yet. Thank you.

Um-you unbolt it?
I dunno, mine was already off when i got the car. Hinge has covers that i think are removed from insidewards the car.

I don't see any hinge "covers" anywhhere. It's not the hinges I am worried about, it's the tricky hinge prop on the passenger side. Looks like it has upper and lower pins. I don't know if I should begin tearing it off by way of the pins, or if it separates in the center/middle somehow where the lower and upper pieces are sliding together.

If riveted on the ends, drill them off. Use bolts to re-install.

Answer: They have little "hats" that go over unthreaded stubs on both ends. Pry 'em off, tap 'em back on. I just don't remember if they had round washers on one side of the stub or both sides.
