i dont know trannys very well and the owner put a 4 speed in my 64 dart before i bought it. it was a push button but now i am trying to figure out what mine is so where do i look for nmbers or how can i tell what kind it is and what are the differences between the different types?

I believe there is a part number or casting number on the side .If it was out ,the bearing retainer will tell you alot.If it's iron case or aluminum will tell you something ,although some early overdrives were iron case.Slip yoke or ball and trunion ?? hope this helps :read2:

there is a machined pad on the side of the case that is opposite of the rods. May be under several layers of grime and gunk,, on that pad is a series of letters / numbers stamped in,, with that info, one can tell manufacture date, type of transmission,,

here is a photo of the pad....
