Ok everyone....im excited right now.

its not a for sure thing but it sure does sound like it at this point.

about 3 months ago I wrote into the magazine and told them the story of how I got my duster and what I have done to it and that its a 3 generation project and I sent them pictures and I even name dropped FABO a few times

and I never heard back from them so I figured that was that.

WELL.....today I got an email saying that they needed to know my name,my sons name and my fathers name and that they needed " hi-res " versions of the pictures that I had sent them because they needed to know " for the story " .

so it sounds like the duster, myself,my son and my father will be in Mopar Muscle Magazine .....as for when ? I am not sure and is it a for sure thing? I am not sure........but keep your fingers crossed for me guys!!!! and let me know if I am dreaming or if it sounds like its a go?

also....how the heck do I turn pictures into "hi-res" copies? ....is there some kind of converter I could use that would turn my pictures into a hi-res version?

the help would be much appreciated everyone.....oooooohhhhhhhh boy ,this is exciting LOL:cheers::cheers::cheers:

way to go...good luck and cool family story! the mopar family is so nice, too many kids go to imports or think mustangs are kool...ick!

Great! Are you a forum member over there? I am and their Senior Editor, Randy Bolig is a regular participant in forum conversation. He's a cool guy.

Nope not a forum member over there.....yet....

I agree....to many kids see the movie fast and the furious and go out and buy a honda......to each his own I guess.....but I just love good old american classic cars when they were build to last and no made of cheap plastic parts.

and Ill make sure my boy grows up with good taste in cars.

sure hope my story gets published and I sure hope I can figure out if I can convert my pictures to high resolution...I would hate for my story not to get put in because I cant make my pictures bigger/clearer and I can't retake certain pictures because I have made too much progress since those pictures were taken.

very cool indeed.. I hope it all happens, and I look forward to whatever issue you wind up in..

Do you still have the pictures in the camera that you photographed the car with? If so, check to see what resolution they are. They may have had the resolution reduced to send them the first time. You can't raise the resolution, but you can re-send them at the original resolution if it was high enough. If it is not, change your camera setting to a higher resolution or use another camera. I would suggest at least 5 megapixels, but you may want to contact them and ask them what resolution, and what format they prefer. Finally, you may have to send them one or two per e-mail depending on what sixe the files are. just label the email as "1 of 7" for example so they will look for all of them.

Hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK!

My camera is a 11 megapixel

the pictures were all removed from the camera and put in folders on my computer long ago.

so all I ended up doing was putting each picture into a photo editing program and increased the pixel dimensions to that of what a hi-res image would be ...roughly 3648x2736 and then I cleaned the photos up a bit with a digital camera noise reduction filter.....so there not "perfect" images but they are still of good quality I would say and since the magazine has to shrink the images back down to fit on the magazine page I would think the images would come out very clear.

I then just uploaded them all into an email and sent them to the publisher.

so FINGERS CROSSED.

and yes I gave them quite the long story so I am sure they had alot of editing down they would have to do lol....but I wanted to tell them the hole story and why it was special to me . I am just surprised they actually wrote me back! , months later BUT STILL!

Thanks everyone!

when/if I hear back from them I will be sure to keep you all updated!

I REALLY hope they run my story though, It would make for one heck of family story and add too the history of the duster.

FINGERS CROSSED!!! :clock:

That's great news Dude! Can't wait to read this one in my "library" in the near future :)

As far as the pics, you should be fine. In order to print them they are going to need 300 or 400 dpi. With 3600 pixels (and no cropping) that will allow a print picture of 7-9" wide.

Their artists will probably also tweak the files to get the proper color balance etc.

Hoping so.

they emailed me asking for Hi-res copies of the pictures I had originally sent them months ago.....so I sent them pictures I already had on my computer and then I realised what they had meant by hi-res so I ran all my pictures through photoshop and upsized them to 3648x2736 and then I ran a digital camera filter to kind of smooth out the grainy/blurry/pixilated look it gave the pictures from being blown up.

BUT once there down sized back down to a format small enough to fit on a magazine page they would clear right up and look great.

I ended up sending 6 emails between answering some questions they had and giving them some extra info of what has been done to the duster since I had originally emailed them, plus I sent pictures in a few emails.

so hopfully I didnt scare them away with multiple emails lol.

It would be SOOOO cool to get put in the magazine though and I made sure to mention FABO multiple times so if they run my story...do not be surprised to see a name drop on there.

I feel like a giddy little kid thats waiting to see if Santa got me my BMX bike for christmas LOL

I kind of missed the part where you say you upsized them by increasing the pixels. What size were the originals? Upsizing alone wil not increase the resolution they need as it usually reduces the detail. If you need to, you might need to reshoot your pics.

Figure it like this - you need 300 pixels per inch at "print" size to give them 150 line screen. That is without any resizing/modification :)

The thing is...they took 3 months to finally reply to my email and I have made a TON of progress on the car since then so I can't go back and take any of the pictures they were interested in.....they want a pictures of myself, my father and my son sanding the primered engine bay , a picture of the engine bay just after paint , a picture of the engine assembled on the stand and a picture of the duster when I first got it before it was ever touched......the problem with that is ,the engine is done and in the car and running and driving so that eliminates the majority of the pictures I first send and I have started body work on the duster so it doesnt look like it did on the outside when I first got it.

I can't very well go back in time and retake the pictures lol.

as for the pictures..... they all roughly started off as 640x480 in size which is 8.889 inches in width by 6.667 inches in height with a resolution of 72 I believe.

after I resized them and ran a filter on them they are at 3648x2736 wich comes out to about 50.667 inches in width and 38 inches in height .....but they can resize it to whatever they need and it will be clear when resized down to a magazine format I would assume.

understand where I am coming from? sound like everything should work to you?

In a nutshell - maybe. To understand what happens when printing, think of a screen being laid over the paper. The finer the screen, the more detail the final print picture will have. Most high-quality colour publications will use a screen with 150 or 200 openings per inch. To take advantage of this fine detail, a digital photograph will need double the amount of pixels per inch for the screen. So that would be 300 or 400 pixels per inch (dpi). A 640x480 image would therefore allow full detail at final print size of about 2" x 1".

Using a photoediting program to increase the amount of pixels does not solve the problem. The program simply guesses which color to paint the pixel between the two adjacent pixels as it adds more. So if you have a sharp edge in the picture between blue and yellow, it will guess which colour would create a smooth transition between the two. This could be a green for example, or a lighter blue. This is referred to as interpolation, and although it works ok for some image elements (trees, sky), it makes sharp edges like body lines and black lines appear fuzzy. An image can only be as detailed as the original source.

For a 4x5 print you need 1200x1500dpi with a 150 line screen or 1600x2000dpi for a 200 line screen to achieve proper detail.

congrats let us know when it will be in the magazine,, i didnt know they had a chat forum over there,,,,

Grant.....Thanks for trying to help me understand the concept behind it all.

Alot of it is still foreign language to me LOL.....but I get what you are saying now.

OK..... The publisher sent me an email today ...and said he needed my full name, address and phone numbers because " he needed to send me a document concerning young guns"

So I don't know if that is a given now that I am getting in the magazine? ( two emails from mopar muscle magazine in 2 days lol....one would think).

and I don't know if that means if the pictures I sent were good enough and now they are just sending me a confirmation letter letting me know im in the magazine and what issue?

I don't know but its pretty neat LOL .... FINGERS CROSSED GUYS:cheers::cheers::cheers:
