Hughes Iron Ram Heads

-
I've thought the same thing - very interested in any replies that come back.
Let us know!!!

They are Magnum heads made by Engine Quest. Im thinking of a set for my stock appearing build.

They have decent flow numbers for stock type castings. Just to see what Desktop Dyno thought about them I compared them against my home ported X heads which flow higher peak numbers but the lower lift numbers aren't quite as good. Desktop Dyno showed a gain of 15 hp and no loss of low end torque. Plus their closed chambered so you can run somewhat higher comp. and 1.6 ratio rockers make the cam in essence a little bigger. For the price they look like a real good deal.

Hopefully someone will chime in that's running some. Nothing like real world results.

No problem. You can also get them drilled for LA intakes. No need for an expensive Magnum intake.

Do the ones from EQ come with valves? In the picture it don't show them and I don't see where it says they have them. The Hughes ones do say they come with valves and they also have 2 different sets. One drilled for a Magnum intake and one drilled for a LA intake.

Valves cost $100 easily. If the ones from EQ don't have valves there no better deal. Also drilling the intakes will cost something at the machine shop.

I think the valves come at an extra cost from both Hughes and EQ. I am sure that EQ offers the same additional parts if you were to call them up.

What I have been thinking of is with the extra parts and having the LA intake holes drilled, the total cost wouldn't be too far off from the Eddys...

I figure I would have $1000 into the EQ's straight from Hughes with all the additional needs that the IRON RAM's require for the performance I'm looking for.

I might spend the extra $300-$400 on aluminum.

Has anybody figured the cost up for these with valves, rocker arms, bolts, intake drilling and whatever else is needed? Jeff

HPHD-MAGOur #4666 Heads With 1.620" Ex & 1.92" Int Valves (No Spring Kit)

The above statement is a direct quote from Hughes website. Oversize valves (2.02 int) cost more.

They also say it costs $80 to drill the LA pattern.

FBO lists the heads with either the Magnum or the LA style intake bolt pattern.
Looks like $1,000 for complete heads minus the rocker arms.

I bought a set of the Iron Rams with 2.02/1.62 valves. Below is the price breakdown
$904.00 for heads with O/S Valves (Includes valves and Racing Valve job)
$325.00 Hughes 1110 Spring Kit (Includes Springs, lock, retainers seals and Labor)
$80.00 Drill for LA intake (now have 5/16 " holes for either LA or Magnum intake)
$1309.00 Total Shipping was around $75, but I also bought a cam and some other small parts
I decided to go with the Iron Ram so I could reuse the stock Magnum rockers and stands. I will be installing these on my stroker engine later this week, but more then likely will not be installing the engine until it warms up. I'm in Ohio

Whoa a lot of money for iron heads,i hope for that price you got a lot of port/polish work, aluminum Edelbrocks are only about 90.00 more..

Those are remans probably. The EQs are new castings.

It says they are new castings. Put a call in today for info on valve size etc. talked to them but the tech guy went home. He will call me tomorrow. $357.99 complete (valves and springs) is not bad IMO

That is a decent price on new heads. They look like stock replacement heads though unlike the Iron Rams which flow quite a bit more than the stock castings.

I confussed:toothy10: I thought there were R/T and Mags. andthat was it. What are ram heads? What makes the different? what were ther on?

The R/Ts are Mopar Performance castings. They no longer sell the production castings.

These are new castings made by a company called EQ. They are an updated version of the production head.

I wonder how they compare to the R/Ts ?
