Is anyone else on here besides me running a Ramrod/Vertigate shifter? I heard horror stories about using them on the street, but I have been put about 5000 miles on my 1st gen Hurst Ramrod without any issues. Had to make my own heim joint linkage, and mounting plate. I also shortened the shift levers, so that there is only about 3 inches of travel at the handle, when shifting.
 
Jamming between gears, hard to downshift, wearing out quickly, not suited for the street etc.

The typical b.s from the same people that say aluminum flywheels shouldnt be used for a street car, or that an 800 cfm carb is too big for a 340.

I am very satisfied with all the above on my street driven Duster.

IMO, If it's binding it's probably due to incorrect adjustment, trashed shift rod bushing, lack of lubrication, or just plain loaded with road dirt. Most of those issues can also happen to most any shifter mechanism.
Lol, I remember the issue I had when I first started using a V-gate was coming to a stop and trying to start out in 3rd. Like most things, once you are used to 'em they are no longer a problem.
 
I ran a RamRod on my Duster for about 10K miles and quite a few track passes. My only issue was the shift from first to second at the track; I blame it on shifter adjustment. It was an intermittent problem; I don't think I ever got it right. Never had an issue with it on the street. I plan to run it on my Barracuda as well.

I have one in my dart. The Hurst ramrod.
I had to make my own linkage
Drive it on the street. It does take some getting used to but after that it comes as second nature
 
I'm using the V-Gate in my Duster. Once I got the adjustments tuned in, it's been awesome. No easier way to power shift than straight back and forth:thumbsup:

I'm getting a vertigate shifter from a friend of mine for my 4 speed swap. it is missing the shift rods tho. I see alot of people make their own with him ends.
would someone mind sharing what hiem ends and what steel rod to use?

If I remember correctly I used 3/8" female spherical rod ends from McMaster Carr, drilled and tapped them out to 7/16" and used 7/16" rod. I did this on my CompetionPlus in my truck, and the Ramrod in the Duster. Be prepared to do alot of mock ups, and head scratching, as there is not much room to fit everything into the shfter body. I had to use jam nuts and trim all the bolts. Its a tighter fit in the Ramrod than in a Competition Plus. Good luck.
 
When they are adjusted correctly and you know how to drive 4 speed they are awesome. Down shifting is not a problem at all. The Ramrod I believe is a way better shifter.
