Congratulations. It is a big deal not just to you but all the people who care for you. I have a daughter who turned her life around. She went back to college and got her masters and is an asset to the community. So yeah I do care and admire you.

I asked the kiddos this morning on the ride to school if they remember me having a beer (oldest would have been 8)

Keep celebrating dude, it's 1 day of 365 doing 1 day at a time. I just celebrated 13 years nov 23rd.
It's a big deal.

It's hard work, don't take it for granted...
My other half had 6 years and has struggled to put 6 months together over the last 3 years.

My ex-FIL struggled as well, but he never made it to 5 years, or at least not in a row.

Congrats! Happy Anniversary. I gotta disagree tho, everyday has to feel like a milestone. You may not share it with us, but there are milestones.

The kids not being able to remember you drinking is just as big of an achievement as not drinking itself. I'll probably never get to meet you and shake your hand, but I am certainly proud of you. My Dad was one of those guys who could do or figure out ANYTHING.....other than how to quit drinking. He was a WW2 Vet, had what I now know was PTSD and had to drink himself to sleep every night that I can remember. He passed when I was 15, and I'm 67 now. I still grieve for the Dad I never really got to know :( Thankfully, your kids will know and remember their real time Dad instead of a drunk Dad. Congrats on 5 years...going on forever!
