Tonight I had class from 6pm until 8:30pm. After class I walked out to my car, unlocked the passenger door and put my books on the seat.

Being eager to get home, I was going to pop a pinch of chew in my lip on the drive home, but I thought, nah... it's a nice night out, I'll stand outside for a minute and do it.

After getting my pinch of chew, I hopped in my car and went on my way. I went down a couple of side streets and came to a very busy intersection with a light. The car that was 20 yards in front of me had a green light and started to enter the intersection to cross the busy street (going west).

A Ford F-150 doing about 45-50mph (going north) ran a red light and SLAMMED into the front of the car that was ahead of me, knocking off the front wheel and hub assembly, then the car spun and the tail end of the car hit the side of the truck, which then tore the rear bumper and gas tank out of the car.

There were parts everywhere. By everywhere, I mean like a 100 foot radius around the accident scene. I had a turn signal lens on the windshield of my car, sitting on the wiper arm.

The driver of the car was OK for the most part. Talking, moving, asking questions. The driver of the truck, got out, staggered around and took off running!! Me and three other guys took off after him. I was the lucky bastard who got to tackle the guy. After we were on the ground, he had a 330lb former linebacker on his head. I put my knee right on his head and held him there until the police came.

Later I found out he had a suspended license and he was DUI. The officer made me place him under citizens arrest since I witnessed his attempt to flee and I was the one who caught him.

So anyway, I told my wife tonight that chewing tobacco saved my life. She laughed and said, don't worry, it will kill you someday. :snakeman:

By the way, I noticed on the rest of my drive home that I waited a few seconds before entering an intersection when a light turned green. Weird how that **** teached you how not to be in a hurry.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt and good job helping to catch that guy! It's amazing what a little looking to the left and right can do even though you have the green light. I do it everytime before I start moving. Don't always trust the person coming up to the red light to stop or the person turning right on red to actually stop first.

good job on catching the SOB. you never know when something like this can happen to you. i remember one day i was driving through an intersection. as i entered i heard honking and skidding, looked to my left and saw a car coming right at me. the lady just missed me but slammed into the car in the lane next to me. it was so close i could feel the impact in my car. luckily everyone was ok.

WOW!
That is one part of my old job I miss, When they ran and I got to tackle them in the parking lot. I was a security guard in an ER and sometimes the drunks or crackheads tried to run away from the cops that were dropping them off. The cops didn't want to get dirty so they would sick us on them. Nothing like sledding on concrete and using a meth head as the sled.

Was your truck damaged from the blinker hitting it?

Sounds like one hell of a day Good moving highwayhooligan
I would like to thank you for your time a strength's you have in your mind and body. No need to get in a hurry anywhere except on the race track.
Glad the worst did not happen, I had to hold 360scamp back when an old fart was hiding my car. J.R. " 360scamp" would be a great friend close by.
Glad you seen the light and slow down on the streets, there are some crazy folks out there.

Glad to hear you didn't get it Hooligan. Good job on being brave enough to go after that trash. You are right that things like that will sure make you more aware of it. Back when I was a kid I nearly got taken out by a train (got the car stopped less than 5' away from the train) at an intersection that had a tall row of trees blocking the left view. Being a dumb kid I always trusted the lights. That time they weren't working but thank God I had the window down and heard the whistle. Still remember it just like it was yesterday. I always make sure nothing is coming before crossing now by looking and listening rather than trusting lights.

Man, I was shaken at first because it was right in front of me. I had to do the ole "specticals, testicles, wallet and watch" move to make sure I was still in one piece.

I was in my '71 Valiant and I had just painted her. This is my second day driving her. No, the lens on my windshield did not do any damage.

It's kind of weird because my leg muscles are burning. It hasn't been since high school that I have ran that hard and I only ran 50 yards! In my senior year when I played football, I weighed 285 and I was in shape. Did cardio in the morning, weight training in the evening. Now I'm married, 330lbs and only get cardio training when I go to the grocery store! Damn, that adreniline is some good stuff.

Bravo! Bravo!

I'm not sure I would've had the balls to chase after someone like that. Of course, I weigh less than half as much as you do (although I am 6', go figure :angry7:). If only I had my dad's physique....

Glad you were unharmed too. So far I haven't had any close calls like that, although I did bump someone and mess up the front bumper on our '03 Town & Country a little bit when I wasn't paying attention. Luckily I wasn't in my Duster or the trailer hitch in that lady's Lexus SUV would've ended up relocated a couple inches forward. Ah, the days before fiberglass bumpers.... LOL!

Glad to hear you're OK, that's the most important thing. Getting the guy is a bonus.

I had a similiar experience many years ago but I was on my motorcycle on the way to work. I was second in line at the red light behind a Cadillac. When the light turned green the caddy pulled into the intersection and was instantly t-boned by some lady that just wasn't paying attention. If she would've t-boned me, I would have been killed. If I was one minute earlier leaving for work, I wouldn't be here.
