well my dad told me that he had a new cam for his 318 when i was a kid that he never put in an i found it still in the box in the shed its the 508 MP an the lifters.i want to put it in my current 318 but the bottom end is all stock will the cam have any effects on that also the heads are stock with a home pocket port job with 500" tested springs will this also be a factor?if so what sould i change to run this cam with the heads that i have on her now?

Leave it in the box, the rest of the parts cant take it, (valve to piston maybe, retainer to guide clearance wont be enough, nand the springs arent stiff enough, and even if they could, you'd need some serious rpms to make the power it does ina 318 with low compression) Summit has a nice cam for short money that would drop right in with high performance springs you have.

I'm sorry to agree with Moper. Thats a lot of cam. I had one in a 360. The longer stroke of the 360 brings in power alot earlier than the shorter stroke engines. It didn't even start to crack open the eyes at 2700 rpm. At 3200 it started to wake up and about 3500 - 5500 is where it came on real good.

I too must strongly agree with Moper an Rumblefish. That cam is too 'long'. I will tell you the same thing Ed Hamburger told me "take it out in your back yard and throw it as far as you can". I HATE that cam. Course I have a 340 low compression...I am sure it is fine in a 360 with compression and a clutch. I think...Terry.

For a mild 318;
I suggest the Mopar Performance cam, # 4452759

I am using this cam, in a 318, with # 302 heads. :thumblef:

My car has the stock 2.94 rear gears,
dual exhaust off the stock 273 exhaust manifolds,
An old Edelbrock LD4B intake,
a # 1406 600 cfm Edelbrock AFB .

The car has good bottom end, Awesome mid range.

I bet it would Really work great with 3:23 gears.

.Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,200-5,200 RPM
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 221
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 228
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 221 int./228 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 260
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 268
Advertised Duration: 260 int./268 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.430 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.450 in.

thats the cam that i have in the car now i like i but the cars not lope for me!i want more!

MP's 280/.474 on a 110 C-line would be a good chopping idle.Since you have a MP cam current, if the springs are the suggested ones, there also the same ones for the above cam i Believe.
