Anyone have experience with these Pistons? It seemed to be a cheaper alternative two other forged pistons I've found. I think their new because they're not even listed on their website. Here's the link to what I found on Huges website Hughes Engines

There new , just out this past year. also available in IC9978 at 10-1. Don't like the supplied locks. Under head has the form (molding) of what could of had a 4 valve notch type piston (unneeded weight). Otherwise Icon pistons are usually good. Keep in mind the 9900 series is a more budget directed line.

Cheaper isn't always better and can end up costing you more in the end.

FWIW, I have used hypers in turbo rally cars for a few thousand full-bore rally miles, with 14-15 psi boost. Absolutely no problems.

The idea that there is a reliability problem with hypers is not correct. Forged are 'tougher' (in the materials science sense of the word) and will take more ABUSE with excess heat, extended pounding, and detonation, but hypers are strong and do just fine for most everyone's needs. Plus they are considerably lighter, and thus take stress off of the crank and rods at high RPM's.

The tighter piston-to-wall clearance of hypers will tend to work better on the street if you are doing a lot of long distance cruising or just street driving. So it also depends on the use.

I use icons a fair bit. circle track use holds up well. street use good too. They are stronger than hypers and will take more abuse. No issues with the quality.

I still use them for street builds and dirt circle trac builds. One is being assembled this week.
