so my PP 833 has other numbers telling me the production date was in Nov, 1970. My question is this: why would there be no VIN number above this as I have seen on other transmissions? Does not having one mean anything? thanks

perhaps it was a replacement installed by the dealer after some mishap when the car was still fairly new.

do you mean a replacement trans? - hmmm- seems a number of these could have led a short life...but, I could be wrong, it also seems to me they repaired vs. replaced a lot more back in the day. thnks f or y our reply. Maybe it's safe to assume trans was not mated to a new car when it was produced...

Yes,that would be a fair assumption to make.Sometimes dealers installed options for customers after the car was delivered .It was nothing like today's take it or leave it way of doing business.

Got a photo?

You can check above, around & below the pad too, some stampers missed the mark by inches at times.

I have seen blocks stamped well above the pad, one oil pan stamped & some pads that missed the milling process before being stamped too.
