ideal gears

First trip to the drags with the new setup. Was wonding what you guys think would be the ideal gears to run.

Car is a 69 Dart with 440 auto and a GV overdrive. Tires are 26x10.50's.

How much power does the motor make, and at what rpm? Are you planning on using the GV overdrive (if so what is the ratio) or just running through 3rd gear?

Before I say what it makes let me say I dyno'd the ORIGINAL combo. This one should make a tad more. Original combo made 467hp@5600 and 514Ft/lbs@3900. So add a little more to that and I should be in the neighborhood of 500hp.

I don't care if I use the GV overdirve or not.

1/4mi or 1/8th?

That much power in a average weight dart has the capability of trapping 120+ mph in the quarter if it's running to it's potential.

Just too many variables at this point to run multiple scenarios.

I agree, 120ish trap speed.

with those little itty bitty rear tires I'd say 3.54-3.91

My 500 stroker makes 550 HP at just over 5000 RPM. I run 27 inch slicks and 3.55 gears and go thru the traps a little over 5000 RPM at 115 MPH. I'm guessing your trap speed would be similar, so you may want to stick with nothing higher than 3.91's.

I can't fit any taller tire without stretching the quarters or moving the rear back. I may at some point move the rear back.

I used the drag racing computer. with my gears in 3rd i'll be at about 5700 and with the 4.57's in OD i'll be at about 5700.

So will the car go faster with the 4.57's and one extra shift???
