Can anyone help with ID on a 727 trans case? Can't find the number in either Tom Hands book, or the listing on MyMopar.

Thanks, Charlie

It seems like there is a number missing... Can you post a picture of the numbers???

I have trouble doing pictures. I agree with you about the numbers, but that is all there is. I cleaned it off real good. I can tell you this. It is just a bare 727 case, and for a slant six. I basically need to know the year. Member on the site is looking for a slant six 727 and he has a V-8 short tail 727. I'm thinking he can put his internal parts in this case, along with the short tail housing.

Charlie, does your case have a big 188 or 104 cast in it up in the bell housing area?

Yes, it has 188 on the belhousing area. Thanks for popping in. Maybe you can give a definitive answer. Member Stephen Mulkey has a V-8 727 trans (see this thread) [WANTED] - 65 A100 /6 auto I was thinking he might be able to install all his V-8 guts, and tail housing into my empty main case, and wind up with a short tail slant six 727 trans. Can you advise if this will work.

Not yet but I may have a good /6 727 out and collecting dust here soon if I can decide which way I want to go on my truck .. 85 d150 with a/6, this 727 is still in my truck, at the moment. This 727 lockup is the original trans my truck was born with.
I have to decide between leaving it as is or swapping in an 833 OD or swapping in an a500 with the adapter plate that I also have....
When I was younger there would be no choice the stick would have already been in there.
But at 57 and feeling nickeled and dimed like an old truck, and basically feeling like I need an overhaul on all the joints of the right side half of my body, it's a tough decision to make.
I have everything on hand for whichever way I decide to go. Which makes it even harder to decide.

Searched the number and got 86 w150 A727 whitch i believe should br correct.
Now can it fit into the /6 case?

A W-150would be 4wd.
The clutches and such would be the same but the tailshaft housing and output shaft wouldn't work, as it is much different than 2wd parts. So the front case and innards would work the back half would not.
But that wouldn't have anything to do with fitting in a /6 or a v8 case.
What would though is if you are working with '64/65 parts as those were different and won't swap into a 70s or newer case as up til 65 the 727 had 2 pumps.
I've known people to gut a /6 specific 727 trans and scrap the casing over the years, as everything but the front case will work on v8 models.

Looks like the hunt is still on, or pull the whole subang and V8 it with my trans and parrs. Only need V8 frame brackets then.
