anyone know of a tool or technique to remove the wires/pins from the connector? Need to depress the two flanges. Like some barrel that slides over the connector/pin.

That’s fancy. My snap on (over priced) set is not that big. I’m jealous.
My wife has always said it’s not how big the set is that matters. It’s how the set is used and how often!
I have a kit similar to the one in post#2 and I gotta say even still sometimes I have the best luck using a small screwdriver.
Here's a way to remove the round terminals from that connector.

Once you insert the brass tube in the connector, it will compress the locking tabs allowing the terminal to be released. May take a few tries but it almost always works. These can be found in hobby shops or online.
Many of the kits don't have this particular size release tool.
