Have everything torn down to the blinker mechanism but can't get any further. Removed the snap ring from the main steering wheel shaft thinking the housing would slide off but no go. How do I get to the tumbler portion of the ignition switch on a 70 A-body?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

after you get the wheel off

you pull the locking disc off the shaft..

then , follow the pics.

pull the two screws out. and remove that plate.

see that lil hole the i'm pointing to? you need to put a lil screw driver or nail or whatever fits and push down. there is a lil pin in there that is spring loaded. NOTE: you need a key in the switch for some reason. doesn't even need to the correct key. while pushing that pin down pull the tumbler out.

Once you get the turn signal switch out of the way (you may want to unplug it below so you can pull it out farther) and that upper snap ring off, then you have to pull the upper section of the housing off. If it's never been off before it may require a puller tool to remove it. Don't beat on anything.

You can buy a puller: part number 2265656 available at the dealer for about $22. Or you can make one (pictured in lower right).

Once that section is off and the lock plate removed, you can access the switch.
