New to the forum here, but im hoping you guys can help me out. My dad has been having starting issues with his '73 Dart Swinger and asked me to replace the switch. No problem right. Well i got the old switch out with minimal problems, but the new switch from the parts house just doesn't look right. The switch itself looks the same but the wiring doesnt match up. The old switch had five wires coming off the back of it, but the new switch has six. Also, the new switch doesnt have the seat belt switch (at least that what i think it is) at all. The wire for the gear position indicator light is also not there. Now pulling them out of the old connector and putting them into the new connector wouldnt be a problem but the are not enough open terminals due to the extra wire coming off the new switch. Thought i had the wrong part but all the new switches i can find are like the one i already have (six wires). Is this the correct switch or not? Or am i just missing something here? Any help is greatly appreciated. Photos of new and old switch included. Edited to attach photos.

You have to download your pics to your computer first, then upload them.
They look like they are links to your AOL mail attachments directory and not the pictures themselves.

I went through this same thing with my 73 Valiant. I matched the terminals on the new switch to the OEM switch and found the extra wire from the new switch wasn't needed/used. Seemed to me that the chinesse saw a terminal there so they put a wire there. Maybe late models did have another wire and that's what they modeled the switch off of. Anyway... The pink key buzzer wires are backed out and moved from old to new. The orange wire for shift indicator bulb was backed out of the car harness connector also, and put together with added male and female spade terminals outside the OEM configuration. Their extra wire will dead end right there where it is with no issues.
