Well, it's been a few months but I a back on this site. It's been a rough year. One plant closed and everything moved to Mexico.....I went to a new company and that plant closed and now I am at my third company since July. Gotta love the automotive industry in Michigan. I have my 416 finally getting built by Rick LaPorttre in Bay City. (racingengines.com) It should be done in the next couple weeks with fully forged internals, ported X heads and the likes going in my rust free 68 Formula S from Newport Beach, CA. I am very excited about the whole deal as I have been waiting 5 years since I bought the car for the motor to match my expectations. The stroked 360 he recently built for a Dart runs 9.50's but mine will be a little milder with the ported X heads instead of the Brodix on his last motor. If this doesn't have enough I am going Nitros (that's why I am going with the forged internals). Getting pretty excited so I figured I would write my favorite site.....update will come. Scootie in Northern Michigan....

Glad your back. Good luck with the new job !

Adam, as I said it has been a few months since I was on the site....Last I knew you had sold the Scamp and were moving on. You gave me great advice and pictures on how to clearance my block for the 416. I am glad you are still out here...thanks for the advice in the past, thanks for the good wishes and good luck on your current/future A body projects.

Welcome back, hope the new job works out with all the car companies in the news lately. Interested to see what kind of numbers that new engine puts out when it's done. If things improve for me health and ability wise I was considering stroking a 340 decking the block and using the X heads. Keep us updated!

Welcome back, Glad to see your project underway. I have one question though. I worked in the performance engine build for the last 10 years so I have some experiance, why put such a restrictive head (i know they are 1 of the best stock head that dodge produced) for such a big motor? The x heads on my 340 is the restrictive point, it made just under 500 hp and I know if I changed them to eddies, or the b1's sitting under the work bench then it would have made another 75+ hp. Just my .02 cents. I know cost becomes a factor but if going with the forged internals and big cubes you should put on a set of good heads. Down fall to the b1's are there are no mounting holes for the accessories. Not knocking your plan just trying to help out. Either way it sounds like on heck of an engine.

I already had the X heads. They are being completely rebuilt, ported with a new valve job and guides for a pretty reasonable price. I figure I can change them later if I am not happy. I feel that its best to put the real money into the block and bottom end. Everything else can get upgraded down the road. I am also running my 3.23 gears and around a 2800 stall converter for at least a year or so until hopefully I can build up my savings again. I think these heads will provide the low end that I need for now. It will be on the street 90% of the time and most of that will be on 55mph highways. Thanks for the input. I agree that horsepower is made by the heads but you can't get too much insurance in the bottom end.
