My Daddy just inherited an automatic on the column 1967 Dodge Dart (I think 225 Slant Six) that only has 89,586 original miles on it from my Great Aunt Mary who died at the young age of 103 a few weeks ago. Daddy helped her buy this car brand new in 1967 from one of the Darlington, SC sales, and before she died she said she wanted him to have it.

I was looking around at it this morning in the old shed where it has been parked for 6 years, not running or anything, and it's in great shape. The body is perfectly straight with no accidents (she literally only drove the thing once a week to town to get groceries because she lived next door to her church) and just a ding or two on the chrome that looks great. It's a white 4 door, and the interior still looks brand new except for a couple of spots where mice got in and gnawed on the headliner.

I know we need to drop the gas tank and boil it out. How hard is that to do? I've restored a 1964 Plymouth Valiant convertible before so I know a good bit about these cars, but I never dropped the tank on mine before. I know we better boil the radiator and of course replace the fuel pump, rebuild the carburetor, replace the belt and hoses... but any advice is welcome. I'm excited to get to work on this car because it's in such good shape!

Anyway, just wanted to see what you guys have to say. Also - what do you think something like this car would be worth once we wash and wax it and get it back up to speed?

Thanks!

I think it would be worth quite a bit to you and your Dad...but a 4 door /6 car is never going to be worth a lot...maybe 2K-3k. I fixed up a really low mileage Texas 318 4 door dart with AC...etc...put disk brakes on it..cop wheels..8 1/4 rearend..really clean car. I did get 3500.00 for it.
Bottom line it cost as much to fix up a 4 door car as a 2 door car...2 doors will always be worth more than the 4 door. Though the 4 doors are usually in better condition....now if you convert it to a 2 door post car...:) Then you'd have something.

Welcome to FABO!! Any pics yet? And to drop the gas tank, you simply unhook the wires and hoses from the sending unit, remove the screws from the filler neck boot in the trunk, and then remove the metal gas tank straps and make sure you just hold it up and keep it from slamming into the ground when you do this by jacking up the gas tank to hold it up as you remove the straps and the lower the jack slowly and get it on the ground and get under it and have a friend or your dad hold the filler neck and pull the opposite way of you pulling the gas tank towards the passenger side. It is a real pain in the *** and you may rip your hands up some on the gas tank so it'd be wise to have a valid tetnes shot. If you see any holes in the gas tank bigger than a lead pencil tip after u bring it down and rinse it and knock it out, just get a new tank because making that one work won't be worth it.

BTW, thats a way cool car to own in my opinion. I'd love a 4 door '67 valiant for a daily

I wish I had pictures, but the car is in a shed about an hour from my house. Maybe I can get some Friday, and I hope we can get it back to my house Saturday on a dolly behind my brother's truck. I'm going to be the main one getting it all done, though, since I go down there more often than anybody in my family.

Hopefully Saturday morning we can get it back to my house and I can do some work on it next week, but as soon as I can I'll get some pics up!

Thanks very much for the info on the gas tank! That's going to be one of the first things I end up doing to clean it out. What is the best solution to pour into the gas tank to clean it? I had a suggestion from someone to put a chain in the tank to knock out any of the rust as we're cleaning it. Sounds like a good idea.
