hey guys, just like the title says, does anyone know the inlet/outlet size of the stock mechanical fuel pumps for a smallblock? trying to figure out whats the biggest fittings i can fit on it for my fuel line

Upgrade to the Carter HP mechanical pump. They have 1/4" pipe inlet and outlets so you can run what you want.

2x just using bigger fittings and line after the pump wont so anything... still sucking thru a 5/16 line

yea I know, but im just trying to figure out the biggest so i can find the smallest available fittings and line

What threads are on the stock type pump? is it 5/16" just like the line?

The Carter HP mechanical pumps have female 1/4" pipe threads so you can put whatever size adapters you want on it. Like this:

1/4" PIPE thread is a TON bigger than 5/16 FLARE. Those are two different measurements you're talkin about. You can run 1/2" fuel line into those 1/4" pipe threads on that pump with the right fittings. 1/4" pipe is huge.

Hey man, thanks for the info! I was looking at that pump, but right now im not sure if i can scramble the extra cash together...why don't you take a look at my plan though and critique it for me, could always use an extra set of eyes and ears...Ive been told the 5/16 stuff is good enough for what im doing (high 11 N/A street car)

stock 5/16" hard line to pump inlet (thinking a 100 micron filter before the pump), 5/16" hard line on the outlet of the pump (already prebent on currently on my 340) which will go up to this
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-165156ERL/
then to this puppy which i believe filters to 40 microns
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-230102/
then here

and last but not least, into the carb here

I was however thinking of ditching the hard line on outlet of the pump all together and replacing it with braided line with the same filter and carb feed line. My only concern is if there is a conversion fitting that will thread onto the outlet of the stock pump that will convert and be large enough for -6AN braided line

Im open to all opinions on this as ive never plumbed a fuel system at all and could always use ideas to make it better/ route it better

Well, you left out the actual braided line you'd need. Don't know how much that costs....but dang, 26 clams for a fuel filter? No wonder you don't wanna upgrade to that other fuel pump. lol Seriously, yes, I imagine 5/16 will support what you wanna do......but there's always the what if factor. Even on my slant 6 build, I am gonna to upgrade to 3/8 line. Unless you just want the look braided line gives you, I would chunk all that in favor of that carter pump, some 1/4 to 3/8 female flare fittins from the hardware store for like 2 bucks and just run 3/8 line with one of them metal can fuel filters for like 5 bucks. 51 bucks for a dual line kit? Really?

Like I said, 5/16 will probably support you and you'll never have a problem....but again, I would go 3/8 just for personal preference. Honestly, countin all the high dollar stuff goin to 3/8 would get you OUT of, I think you'd come out ahead. Maybe except for the supply line from the tank and the sendin unit. But you could actually upgrade that last.

Hey man,

I won't be using braided line, the first fitting i listed is to allow the hard line to attach and convert to AN after wards. This will all be up by the carb and manifold. As far as the summit filter goes, i know its cheap eh! lol but i hear they work good. And with the new motor i dont want to chance anything, so i figure a cheapy filter before the pump is cheap insurance too. I have thought about stepping up to the bigger line, only thing stopping me is because ive got so much else going on with the car and money is just disappearing faster than im making it lol

I will price it out though...I always forgot to check ebay darnit lol:toothy10:

thanks for the input man!
