I havn't bought one yet, but I was wondering what was involved in installing a mini spool in an 8 3/4 open rear. Is it as simple as pulling the pin on the spider gears, removing the spider gears and placing the mini spool in the proper place? Or are there special tools needed and also setting up the ring and pinion again?

I haven't done one either but, it is most likely pull the pin, spider gears and side gears and put in the new stuff. the only issue maybe is if you are running a high numerical gear set you may not be able to get the pin out without removing the ring gear.
Are you planning on street driving this car? Spools on the street are not the hot ticket. on tight corners (parking lots etc) things get bound up until the tire slips. If you are street driving, you should look for a clutch type sure grip (rebuild it) and use that, you will be much happier

Just trying to get all the info I can before I do anything. I want to know the pros and cons from every angle.

Thanks

Jack
