do any of you guys have a suggestion on which is the best way to install the snaps into a new boot? I don’t have my original boot cover to go by so will be doing it from scratch any advice would be deeply appreciated

Maybe check the rental outfits for one of these gizmos..........

There is a cheap tool you can buy, likely from the same outfit that sells snaps. I have one,its basically a punch and anvil to set them with a hammer.

Thanks for the video I have one of those squeezer tools for setting tube type rivits I will check with the company that sells the rivets and see if they have the attachments to set snaps

Another nice tool for this job is a leatherworker's hole punch. A nice clean round hole the correct diameter for the snap post helps avoid tears and puckers, that you might get from using an awl.

Here is a pic of the anvil tool and the hole punch. The anvil tool works fine and is available at Ace Hardware.

Placement would be helpful also

Did your cover come with ANY snaps pre installed? Mine came with the ones that snap on the top of rear plastic panels already installed in the cover. From there its kinda up to you to lay the cover in position and poke the holes for the snaps. I believe I worked from the center in the back outwards, alternating sides. Lay it out ahead of time so the wrinkles come out. Don't pull it too tight though, it will shrink over time.
