Yes. and if its column shift automatic put the shifter in neutral. And cover the column with a shop towel or the instrument panel may scar the finish.

I have to add there is a lot more to it than just lowering the column. A service manual would help. Disconnect the battery cable !
Be careful when removing the harness connector(s) or you could break the pins out of the printed circuit boards.
I have a plastic tool that was meant for de-veining shrimp. Its whittled down to about nothing now and used for nothing other than carefully prying those harness connectors away from the pcb. This is just highlights and tips that may save you some grief.
