I'm having my engine re-done. Do most just purchase new manifolds exhaust and intake. Or can they be repainted and cleaned up?

I have a 1965 Dodge dart 225 slant 6.

As always thank you to all that respond.

Intakes are just cast iron, will never die. Aluminum ones get nasty cracks in the plenum floor and have porosity issues. Clean and paint iron ones, good as new. Exhaust can and will crack if not mounted correctly, they are being repopped with modern ribbed design for about 150. Here is an early and a late EGR intake, The red one is the older one, just cleaned and painted....

how did you clean it wire brush? that is excatly what I want to do clean it and paint it. F
Did you spray it? Sorry for all the questions kind of new to this stuff.....

Yes, you can clean it with a wire brush.
The intake mani doesn't get the same heat as the exhaust mani does.
You just remove the old paint on your intake, clean it and spray it with engine enamel.
Read the can and it will tell you that the paint needs to sort of "cure" with heat.
Just don't go spilling fuel over it when it's fresh.
Be careful when remounting the manifolds.
Do a search here or look at the /6 site for complete instructions on mounting the manifolds correctly.
Good luck
