Intake Gaskets, Dry or Glue?

After speaking with the Hughes Engines folks, I'm wondering if anyone has had luck installing their intake manifold gaskets dry; sans the typical RTV on the corners? I'm used to gaskacinch and the Permatex glue job, but am open to new ideas!

i always put red permatex on the corners of the cork

You really just need RTV in the corners of the intake to seal up the water out of the heads and oil from the valley of the engine. Otherwise, you can skip it.

20 years since I used the end rail gaskets. I use the black Mopar rtv, never a problem and I get it free...friend works at the local dealership. I run a 1/4" bead on the block end rails and use only a film around the water jacket openings on the heads. Good luck, Terry.

I've never used anything on the intake to head gaskets on a small block, but the corners do need a bead of something and I've tended to used Gaskacinch on the end rail seals.

Just put mine on yesterday. I used bone dry fel-pro gaskets (the black ones with the little blue rings) and a good hearty bead of black rtv across the front/back. Put the intake on and immediately got all the bolts in to align the gaskets. Torqued it down about an hour later and let it sit overnight. So far so good.

I use indian head gasket shellac on the gasket and black or grey permetex insted of the end seals. never had a leak yet.

What about the MP gaskets with the heat riser block off? (P/N 4286569) How do you install the block off plates that come in the set?

I make the block off plates from .026 stainless shim. I use contac cement and cement them to the heads before the gaskets go down. Works very well. Good luck, Terry.
