Anyone out there have the diameter of the burnishing tip of the installation tool please? I'm Australia and its cheaper and easier to make one right now with the exchange rate at the moment

do you have a machine shop close? they may have the tools, and let you barrow it for 10 minutes.

Thanks guys, no one seems to have such tools down here, Chrysler v8's went out long ago, for eg, you would be lucky to pick up a well used mid 70's 360 engine for under $1200.00, they are like rocking hourse dung!, with that tip measurement I can quickly turn one up. would anyone have a close up photo of the tip at all please?

What you need is a round metal ball, like out of a bearing. That is slightly larger then the intermediate shaft. something like .002-.005" larger Then test fit shaft for clearance.

I don't know how true but have been told that only the factory intermedete bushing need the use of the burnish tool :dontknow:

If you use an aftermarket drive bushing, there's no need to size it. It is the right ID when installed.

Crash520 if you were in Melbourne you could use mine as i have both miller bush removal tool and the Branishing Tool. Purchased them a few years back from the US.

I just measured a brand new intermediate shaft and a brand new bushing.

Shaft is 0.4865 to 0.4870"
Bushing is 0.488"

So a clearance of around .0015 new. Both were from Mancini.

I think we ought to try to remember that when you pound the bushing into the block that the inside diameter of the bushing gets smaller. You still need to burnish the bushing.

Same thing is true of the old distributor bushing kit you "can't get" anymore.

Exactly. A few yrs ago I replaced one and before I put it in it measured big enough to work. Once drove in it was squeezed down and the dist shaft wouldn't go through it.
