Got a set of 308 heads to work on from a member here, he can chime in if he would like to reveal who he is.
Job description..

Port already machined set of 308 heads
2.02/1.60 eddy valves,springs,locks
Milled with a primitive valve job.

I already know what I'm advising the customer, hard seats on both sides and another valve job. Have a look.

The history on these heads is I took them in on a swap.

Then gathered up the valves, retainers, springs and keepers from the edelbrock aluminum heads.

Took them to Shots machine shop in galesberg to have the work done. After he has a heart attack and later falling off a 4 wheeler he called me they're done come pick them up.

A year and a half he had them. He tells me what a wonderful job he did.
I take them home in thick plastic bags and set them on a shelf.

I talk to MO about doing a porting job on them. Finally ship them to him last week.

My goal was a set of iron edelbrock equiped 308s that flowed good.
Can they be saved, I hoping so.

Plenty savable and there will be a thread documenting it.

So your going to put 16 seats in it? Why? J.Rob
Nothing is decided yet.
You have to have them in front of you, they sank the valves more than I've ever seen,
Other option is a serdi 5 angle cutter to make a better chamber side radius.

Shop sank the valves to use the eddy springs is my first guess. That hurts these heads and you lose potential. I would have bought another set of springs, not sunk the valves flush with the chamber....cause that's what we are talking about here.

They are sunk for sure @ 1.770" IH but what is the goal? 400HP-don't bother, 500 hp go for seats. That's a ton of work and only worth it if.....J.Rob

Yep, put a headstone over those fkrs, theyre buried!
Agreed, no need going broke if the goal hp doesn't match the dollar spent. Good thing is the seats I can do for a lot less than most, if absolutely needed. I know what I can do with the right seat height, that's the thing.
The goal with them is a fat low lift with about 255-260 cfm by .500 ..... the sunk valves aren't a great way to start chasing good low lift #' s.

So what is the goal? J.Rob

They go on a .060 over 340 using TRW forged 10 or 10.50 stock replacement pistons. At present have a 508 Purple Stripe cam but want to go more lift later. Holley Strip dominator with 3310 carb.

Are they sunk too much for a 2.055" valve?
