I have a 360 in a 68 dart. electronic ignition conversion. beefed up to 425hp at crank. I went to the chrome ignition box per this site and also put in a pertronix flame thrower coil. Ran Fine. Put new demon crb 750 ran fine. Very fast. for months and months. Then wanted to go old school and put a mallory 29216 coil on and it lasted 10 min. and gone. Didnt run. Got a replacement and ran fine. Yesterday in traffic not hot but not moving it started to die all the time. Would start no problem-Rev-no problem. in gear it died. over and over. would not run in gear.Got it to curb waited 20 min runs like a champ now. WTH? Is the coil lame or box going out? Sorry for the long info but I dont want it to happen again. What coil do you guys run with the chrome box.
Thanks Dale

I would have guessed Idle circuit on Carburetor but I also don't believe in coincidences. So All I can say is try going back to the old coil & see what happens.

What are you running for a ballast? The destructions................

[ame]http://store.prestoliteperformance.com/media/instructions/mallory/Mallory_Instructions_canister_style_ignition_coil_29216_29217.pdf[/ame]

say.............

Do not remove or bypass
the original equipment resistor for any reason

If there is no original equipment resistor
in the circuit, use Mallory Resistor Part No. 700.

ok i must be a moron. whats the idle circuit? Ran fine again today. I noticed my heater hoses were resting on coil too. moved coil over a bit. still have the mallory on. what do you guys use for coil?

My guess would be maybe the coil overheating and not functioning properly, especially if your heater hoses are lying on top of it.

.............The mopar chrome box needs the special coil that is recommended for it...the box is actually not recommended for street use..........kim........

Thank you for the info. I put the 1.5 ohm flame thrower coil back on and it runs fine.
Thanks Again

A coil getting too hot can do that. I found out when I jumpered +12V straight to the factory coil of my 64 Valiant when driving it home the first time, since the ignition switch was acting up. Ran fine for 5 min, then missed at wider throttle. Did you try touching your coil? Mine was real hot. Jumpered in the ballast and drove home fine.
