I got this cone type differential in a package deal. I am curious about these marks on the casing, is this normal?

The pinion bearing came loose and slid back and smacked the carrier.
I have see a few like this, make sure you clean it up real good and it should work fine.
In fact I am getting ready to set up another gear for my car and the carrier I have looks the same way.
Thanks for the info. I have a friend that is a tool maker. He has reconditioned these units with good results. Depending on what mine looks like I may go that route. Will these fit any case? 742, 741, 489?
