Having issue with OER flip top gas cap. There is a fair amount (1/16) of play on both the hinge and the latch side. Causing slop and the causes the spring pressure to overcome the latch. It will not stay closed. I thought OER was the best available. Am i mistaken and should i find a factory one, or should i take it apart and re-engineer it. Or just chalk it up to a bad batch. Anyone else have this happen. It just showed up today and im totally bummed. I cant be driving around with my cap flapping in the wind

Decided to just re engineer it. Spring is too long and stiff. The tolerences are just crap on both hinge and latch side with 1/16 of play on each. And to boot its made to mount horizontal and we mount them vertical for an a-body. So if the latch is 1/16 high and the hinge is 1/16 low. Its off by 1/8... which is a lot. A few bush and softer spring and it should be fine. Sucks but that what happens when everything we buy is a copy of a copy with sweatshop Q.C... the appearance is a solid ten tho. Chrome is nice and castings are good. Just poor fit and finish

Cut one coil out of spring. Shimmed latch side down and hinge side up. Works likes its suppose to now. Removing blind roll pins is fun.
