I've been a 3+ pack a day smoker for 35+ years. Haven't had a smoke for 45 hours.

I’ll throw my .02 in here. You are doing it 100% correct. Keep track of how many HOURS you’ve been smoke free until you make 1000 hours. Because even though you may not think it, a bigger number gives you something to hold onto. Is it easier to give up on...1000 anything or 42 of something? 1000 has much more value than 42, no matter what you are scaling of value. And time has value.

When I quit drinking (01/17/1993 FWIW) I counted minutes. I’m not kidding. I forget at what point I went to hours but it may have been 10k minutes. Then I moved from hours to days and then days to weeks. I was at 208 weeks before I switched to years.

Hang on. Once you get the time in, you won’t quit because the time invested is so high the loss is horrible.

Keep us posted. All of us are praying for you.

great job man , here is the tuff days ahead , learning to do everything again , without a cig was the ruffest of all , to just go for a drive i could fill the ash tray . now the smell of cigs smoke is a down right unpleasant to be a round . in fact i leave the area if someone lights up a cig . so keep right on with the no smoking deal , and please don't submit to eating your way around the not firing a cig up . it a tough road but its a clear road ahead . its been many years since i fired up a cig and glad of it .

i never took count of the number of days , i felt it keep the idea of cigs on my mind , out of mind is the best you can do to forget , now what were we talking about , lol !

I walked out of cardiac ICE after a week, never smoked again, it can be done, best of luck, and ya won't believe the difference ya feel, I can even drink and go to a bar and not smoke, that there is a certified miracle.

Damn, this is AWESOME to hear!!!! Two weeks! No need to start back now. .

You won't believe how good you're going to start feeling. You'll start smelling stuff again. And, I think one reason people gain weight is because they can smell food again.

You should be proud :)

That's great man. Since you've made two weeks, it oughtta be gettin a little easier.

pretty soon you'll be one of those people who object loudly to people smoking 35 feet down wind from you

:)

I'm still hanging in there! Haven't had a smoke since May 15. Still get cravings, and I love the smell yet. Hardest part is seeing someone in a movie smoking, oddly enough... that gives me a bigger crave than the wife smoking next to me for some reason..?

Thanks to you all again for the encouragement.. it did play a part that I would be to embarrassed to let ya all down :)

@RSie AWESOME!!!! Way to go!!!

It may take years, but sooner or later, you will again hate the smell of cigarettes.

I dunno. A guy I've worked with for years (he followed me from my last job to this one.. well, ok, I pulled him along with me , lol) has never smoked. There were times in our last place of employment he would have to ride with me for a couple hours, and it never bothered him that I smoked.. he liked the smell, lol.

My dad smoked around me when I was a kid and it never bothered me. But after just under about 2 years after I quit, I can’t stand it at all. When my wife and I go on a cruise, I have to hold my breath to walk through the casino. Then I smell the stink on my cloth for hours after.

I guess some people would never get to that point, but I’ve heard many other quitters say the same thing.

I know a lot of ex-smokers that can't stand the smell as well, and maybe I'll get that way too. I do know my sense of smell has improved a ton.. I can smell the wife having a smoke in the front porch from the garage, lol.

You hear a lot about peer pressure....in high school, 'Mike' smoked, and smoked a lot. All of us, his friends, would tell him, "That ****'s not good for you..." Mike just laughed it off. He smoked for the next few decades...always had a cig going. I can't imagine the $$ alone that cost. Anyway, last year Mike, after a punishing 6 months of hospital visits, died of lung cancer.

Keep up the good work!

been there done that , mow this is a great deal for you . its hard to do those things when you lite up . but they get easier my friend . feel free to pm me we can trade phone #s if you just want to talk about the issues that make you lean to grabbing those smokes . pm me if you need or want .

Keep at it! My uncle smoked for 40 years he had a mild heart attack, put the pack down for almost 8 years, his secret every time he feels the urge he gets a lollipop from his pocket. Now he doesn't even need the lollipops! Honestly smoking and drinking will only bring you down health wise and financially. Keep it up!

It's really good to hear you are hanging in there and not smoking!! 1000 atta boys!!

I also quit before my wife did. But thankfully I was ready to quit after 25 years and it didn't bother me. It didn't take her too long to give 'em up after me. Maybe 6 months or so.

Keep it up!!! Food will start tasting much better.
