I Had a matching pair of 915 J heads off the same engine.

Both have the "J" down by the spart plug holes but one has no
casting number on it either on the top or bottom of the head.
I was never cast into the head but the area where the casting would
be is blank and never had a casting number in that area.

I believe all J Heads are 915 castings and the head is otherwise identical
to the other one.

Has anyone every seen one before from the factory with no casting number
ever on it?

I saw a set at a swap meet many many years ago. The vendor had no idea why there wasn't a casting number on them either. They were priced reasonable, so I bought them and had them freshened up. I ran them for a few years on one of my street engines before selling it. I have no idea where they are now, they seemed to work as well as any other heads that I had used.

I had a set of 70 model j heads 915 casting(big valve) that were not stamped 360 on tops

I've had many sets where some of the digits were missing, but, not the entire number.

These have the "360" cast on the top..
I sent the man who bought the pair his money
back and will make another trip to San Diego
to bring him another one. I should have paid more
attention to them and I would have saved a trip.

All J heads are not 915's...they went to 587's when they put smaller valves and hardened seats

That's very strange John. Is it for a class engine that requires the casting number?

Btw hope your well!

No he advertised for J heads last month or two on here.
The heads are identical ( I have seen a lot of them ) but he was worried
the one without the numberswas not the same = But they were identical of course.
I want him to be satisfied so I will replace it and make the trip.

Thanks for the good wishes = I am Well.

I FOUND A PAIR OF 915 HEADS IN THE SHOP TODAY WITH " Z " INSTEAD OF
" J " CAST INTO THEM.

weird!

I Have three sets of 915 heads that are all late 69 to early 70 date stamped.
they are J, O, and U letters.
