James’ 1974 W200 build

-
I never thought about doing rear disc but back in the early 90's don't think anything was available. I just kept the big drums out back.
I have the Caddy calipers on the rear of my Dart. I agree, don't think they would work very good on a 3/4T axle.

Another thing I did on my 73 was have a CVJ drive shaft made for the front. Can now drive any speed in 4wd as where before Dodge said don't drive over 40 mph in 4wd.
Funny thing when I had DTS make it he said they don't usually put CVJs on rear shafts. Got the deer in the head lights look when I told him that this was a front shaft.

Okay. I got the Dana70 installed today. Over the week I rebuilt the rear springs, I think they’re a 6” lift spring, I don’t know I got ‘em out of another dodge truck and also found a set of NOS shackles on eBay. New U-bolts and hardware that came with the front lift kit.

Alright Yesterday I removed the blown engine, transmission and transfer case. Those are sure heavy suckers!

Today I scraped grease, gunk, and undercoating. Then sprayed liberal amounts of purple power, and pressure washed with hot water. Came out nice and clean. Blow dry with my leaf blower, and installed my rebuilt transfer case.

I ordered a new “sport” bumper, as they call it I guess, from LMC truck. I’m very happy with it, the chrome is really nice. I was looking for a long time for these specific bumper brackets, they do not reproduce them.

The one I replaced was a heavy son of a gun! It has a pretty ingenious Homemade hitch on it.

this is just mocked up, I need 7/16 carriage bolts, and someone to hold it up as I tighten the brackets. I got some wiring to do to make the plate lights work

Oh my clutch should be here tomorrow! I should be able to bolt up the bell housing and trans to the engine, and put that all in before the weekend hopefully.

So that sport bumper, is that Dodge specific or is it just a generic bumper?..

Okay the clutch came! Here’s my rebuilt stock stroke 360 for this truck:
-&.030 over 10.5:1 SpeedPro hypereutectic pistons on resized k bolts
-OOTB SpeedMaster Heads.
-Holley 750 Street Demon on an RPM AirGap
-Factory style windage tray, Melling HV oil pump.
-hydraulic flat tappet cam, with factory stamped rocker arms for now. :(
(I have 273 adjustable rockers being bushed with lock nut style adjusters being built at Rocker Arms Unlimited.) I’ll have a solid lifter cam I’ll swap in as well when I do that.

For now my cam is pretty mild

The distributor is from member trailbeast, FBO limiter plate inside with lighter springs. I used a summit HEI style cap that fits a stock style distributor for the male ends, see if it works. I dunno

I might go with FBO ignition or the revenator ICM

I decided to build a Dana 60 for the front. I went with an Eaton Electric Locker, Warn Premiums, new bearings, seals, U-joints, and brakes.

Skyjacker 4” lift springs. New frame bushings, and 1” lift spring hangers. With the Dana 60 it should work out to a 6” lift.

I got the engine and transmission mated. I guess I deformed the pilot bushing when I installed it, so I used the needle roller pilot bearing from a magnum instead. It’ll just hang here on the picker until Tuesday, hopefully I can install it then. If I had a shop or garage it woulda done been done. I’m working outside under a tarp. All my stuffs gettin rained on.

If your engine hoist is anything like mine it doesn't look like it goes anywhere but in the morning everything will be on the ground LOL...

Oh yea mine does the same. I have a little safety thing built on there I can put a bolt through it. It’ll definitely leak down. :)
