Just got the Magnum swap done. 750 carb, headers, new timing chain. Motor had like 160k. Runs great. no smoke. idles at 30psi oil pressure jumps to 50-60 with a good amount of throttle. Been beating on it quite a bit. (I put it together to enjoy it and I do!) Lol, anyways, def gets reved. nothing to crazy. maybe seen a bit above 5k a few times. Had a SLIGHT tick before now, it's noticable. Debating if I should tear it apart or just run it. Sounds like driver side VC...just a tick. Opinions?

Also, if I do replace them, thought about putting on 1.7 rr's, but would that be a bad idea with the old springs?

You check mine and I'll check yours. :D
I have a slight intermittent tick on the passenger side but it's been exactly the same ever since I first put it together.

I would say if it's changing you probably want to take a look since rollers have needle bearings and you don't want one of those disintegrating into your motor.

Haha DEAL!!! Its not bad, im just OCD. Not even sure what to check for. (First pushrod motor). Its roller, so I guess nothing would need adjusted. Only thought is maybe the old lifters. They arent going to like the nitrous. Ugh

I always thought magnums were shaft mounted rockers. Dont know where I read that. But theyre pedastal? Does this mean theyre simliar to a Ford, Chevy type rocker?

I just installed new lifters, when I put the new cam in.. I completely understand low buck,....I didn't feel it was worth the gamble, time and labor wise.

Late model Ford 5.0,same design....
Edit: Sometimes used engines, collect a piece of dirt or two,in the lifters.... This can create, a mild clicking sound. I would recommend a touch of Marvel's ,a couple of ounces of ATF,or a bottle of Rislone for valvetrain noise. Some people, don't like it... I have used the Rislone, and Marvels multiple times. All three are high detergent, follow the instructions...

Jake's 2002 Ram 1500 daily driver had 160k on it when he bought it and has 200k on it now. The 5.9 has never been apart except for a water pump and a 2x roller while we had the front apart. He runs the truck HARD! Has had a slight tick since the day he bought it. no issues......yet.

My Magnum was ticking like it was the valve train, but it was actually a leaky exhaust gasket. Easy fix, it's worth checking before you tear it apart again.

Thanks guys. I'll pull valve covers tonight and check it all over. maybe I'll just run it if I don't find anything "off".

They are pedestal.

Thanks, looks like to do a stuff mounted it takes some work. I see alot of people running chevy Rockers (I don't wanna do that). But when I saw pics, I didn't realize they "converted" it. When I saw stock motors apart looked like a shaft like the older LA motors. So thought they just had like aftermarket heads.

I put Harland Sharp 1.7 roller rockers on my 360 magnum in my truck. Just popped the valve covers off and installed slicker than a whistle. Worked with all existing valve train.

Curious how many miles you have put on it since install? Sometimes after sitting awhile, as you may know, lifters can take awhile to pump up. I've had some stubborn one take many miles. Have you done a second oil change? What weight oil are you running?

So no problems going to 1.7 rockers?
What did that give you for lift?? Any notacible improvement in power????
Stock magnum heads?

100 % bone stock 360 mag 2001 3/4 ton 2wd truck. Now has 232,*** miles. Bolt and go, Period. Should have added another .030 lift (approx.). Very quiet under the valve covers. Very smooth. I could not feel any difference in power, but if it added 10 horse I doubt I would feel it in a 5000 lbs vehicle.
