well guys im out of work for a while and got aot of things in my head for the duster...right now it has 27/10.5 qtp tires on it and i plan to go to a full slick next year....hers my plan (or thoughts) i thought about a set of 28/10 or 29/10 and a gear change as well right now i have a 4.57 in it and if i go up on tire i thought hay up on gears maybe a 4.88 with the 28 what do you think the diff. would be...right now it cross the line at just 5000 in the 1/8 mile need to go though the 1/4 and see where im at also....i want to get more out of this combo before i go back in the motor and max what i have on it...i already sent my info to a verta company for some thoughts on a new verta..has a 9.5 in it now think a 8 would perform better....car short time should be a litter better 1.67..rear sus. is s/s springs and mp drag shocks....i plan to raise the car about .5 or 1'' and see if that help the short time just a little...anyway whats some of your thoughts on this...let me know if more info is needed.....:dontknow:
 
Well if you mini tub and relocate the springs inboard you can easily fit a 29.5/11.5 tire in there. You will have to work the wheel well opening though. I used that in my Duster with a 4.88 gear. It crossed the line at about 7200.
 
I think if you really have want to race both 1/4 and 1/8 mile the car will need to be set up for 1/4 and let the 1/8th mile ETs fall where they may. You cant maximize the effort for both successfully.
 
thanks guys its already mini tubed but didnt move the springs in at all. i had a 10/29w slick on it at one time with a 10'' rim fit great loved the look just didnt have the power for the tire i think then sold that set of tire and rims went with a 8'' rim this time....moper as far as not haveit both ways i know i cannt do that but i want to use whats there if that makes any since if i can up gear and tire and still be around the same but just a tad bite more would be good.....not trying to max 1/8th and try 1/4..i just thought if i went up on both it would help out on both sides but maybe 60' better,et better,and mph better if that makes since......:dontknow: but thats why im here to learn from guys that has tried or done it..but its not set in stone just in the little :sign6: in my head...im out of work for some time gotta have surgery tomm. and was just trying to keep some pos. thoughts going....thanks
 
okay guys so do you think if i put the taller slick and more gear would it pick up any or be about the same....27/10.5 and 4.57 now to a 28/10 and 4.88..i talked to lenny the other day and a new verta will be in it next year plan to go up and met with him..new verta will be 8'' with 5500 ..:read2:
 
The biggest difference in the eight is the rpm needs to climb faster. So you gear for that then you have the issue in teh 1/4 of running out of rpm. That's why I say to max things out it cant really be done well. So if it were me I'd gear it for the 1/4 rpm you need and put as much diameter as you can under it. Taller gets you more usable traction (footprint) than wider does. So taller tire/steeper rear gear will help in both power to tires and tires' ability to transmit that power. Then run the 1/8th like it was a 1/4mile in terms of shifting.
