:wack:My wife and I just got back from car shopping. wanted to get her a 2015 Durango RT. AWD. I live in southern California, not Podunk Nebraska, and I could not find a single RT Durango AWD , SD, Riverside, orange county. Well what I did find is, according to Mopar, buyers don't want a gear selector, either on the floor or on the column. What do you get? A freakin round switch P/R/D. that's all. AND did you know that CDs are obsolete ? yep. 55 thousand Car and NO CD or DVD! I asked? EVERYONE has that on there phone, just plug it into a usb port. Well not me. Did not and prob will not buy a Durango. Im just venting after wasting a day. MT

Don't get AWD anything. 4WD is fine, AWD is terrible. The tires need to be sequential serial numbers to assure they are the exact same size. Any size difference front to rear will cause the viscous coupling to fail.

Damn , another government regulation... As for the O.P., has your dealer done a dealership scan, for the model you want?

I don't think it's the model he's looking for. He wants options that are becoming obsolete in this day and age. CD's have been on the decline for years now and since everything is becoming electronically controlled there's no need for a gear selector in an automatic. Although, I can see why you'd want one.

Tell me what happens when your girlfriend goes to turn down the radio with the gear selector at 45 mph!

MuuMuu, thanks for the clarification. (The knob situation, was my misunderstanding) However , I still prefer personal control of instruments.) If it isn't available, simply find another option. (Life can indeed suck ***, this is a mild setback)

I still have lots of cassette tapes but my 04 ford Freestar and 07 mustang just have CD players.

Heard a few years ago they stopped putting those in because people don't use them, well that is BS what am I suppose to do with them?

So now I have 8 track tapes, cassette tapes and CD's that I only listen to when traveling.

Have no clue how to get music into an iPod or whatever the hell they are. My Mustang does have MP3 capable, what is that?

I have a cell phone, it makes phone calls, does not surf net, play music or anything but make calls, oh I can take some crappy pictures the size of postage stamp

Since most people embrace technology the manufactures do whatevery they can to save money and make what they think people want.

I drive new cars at work, the Escape has shifter, the MKC has push button. I prefer the shifter in the escape.

Now at least the new Fords, yes we think they are electronic but there is still a shifter cable and controller to shift the transmission into gear. The button just tells it where to go.

Being in California don't know why you would want an all wheel drive unless you are in the higher elevations. It will just use more fuel and more to go wrong, but that is my opinion.

I looked at a Durango R/T before they changed body style think early 2000's one thing I didn't like was it was AWD I might have been more interested in it had it been a regular 4x4

It is your money, but doubt you will be able to buy a new vehicle that will make you happy unless you become more tech savy.

my wife has a 2006 mercury all wheel drive, great car, but like all the fords I`ve owned, it`s expensive to keep right. $900 FOR PARTS THAT WEREN`T COVERED UNDER A 100,000
warranty. youngest daughters mustang is the same way. oldest daughter has a 2011 mustang (runs pretty good) for sale, just 22.000 miles on it. she likes their jeeps better !

I still want a cd player in my vehicles too. I don't know why I would want to put an entire collection on another format. Plus I think buying songs from the Internet is expensive and time consuming. When I buy someone's music, I want the whole album. Not just whatever is being promoted at the time. Besides, when I buy a cd, I actually own something. When you get a song off the Internet, you are just paying to listen to the song. I have vinyl, had 8 tracks, cassettes, and cds. I refuse to convert everything to another format. This is why I am glad I was able to find a 2013 Ram truck with a floor shifter, and a cd player.

It's not what YOU want...

It's what the government mandates what you want...

If you don't want what the government wants you to want, then you may become wanted... You don't want that, do you???

Maybe back to Ford again. She has a 2008 Edge AWD now and loves it but it has 120k miles on it, and we are in a position to get her a new car. I DONT want a Japanese car, wont go into why, so American it is. 2016 edge is ok but IMO underpowered. Eco boost 2.0 l engine. . MT

My wifes '13 Ford edge awd is as very nice vehicle the 3.5 has plenty of power..most importantly built by an American based company(but assembled in Canada) thats ok i'm half Canadian:D:D i would deffinately buy another one, right now theres no other make i'll buy..

Yes BUT no more 3.5, 2.0 turbo now! 2016 complete redesign, real nice but the power plant sucks! I need to find out if there is another choice with Balls! In the Edge. MT

Edit; the edge sport looks like the ticket! 2.7 v6 turbo! MT

im glad you got me started on that
my winter beater is an 08 charger, AWD
now, regardless of the fact that ma mopar decided to put in the manual that EVERY tire needs to be the SAME SIZE and put a a DONUT spare tire in the trunk...I decided to upgrade
being a winterbeater I have 2 sets of rims with it , one with winter tires, one with all seasons
being the big dummy that I am, I decided to take one of the wheels I do not use at the time and toss it in the trunk as a spare tire so that in the even something happens, I have 4 tires of (almost) the exact same size
so, I pulled out the donut and tried to put in the full size wheel
well, guess what....IT DOES NOT FIT!!!
the spare tire well is to narrow for a full size tire :banghead:

On most new cars a spare tire is a option! You get a can of fix a flat!:banghead::wack:MT

That's why I like older cars. They don't force all that crap on you that you don't need.

Too many distractions and unnecessary options that I don't need or want...

We just bought a 2015 Ram 2500 4x4 for our business. Had to search all over to find one with a pull lever for 4x4. Most now use the electronic knob. After I bought it I was 2 miles down the road when I couldn't find the CD player. Turned around, went back and they showed me that you actually put the cd in under the seat now. Could the Durnago RT be like this as well?

Might be, but where as Ford has a multigate shifter Dodge does away with a shifter altogether. Who do you think has the pulse of the buyers? MT

Yeah, but what good is a shifter when you have not much input on when it shifts as the shift points are already programmed into it and it will override you...

It won't let you wind it out to get max performance...

Because a few people don't know how to drive and may over rev and blow the engine, they override it to make it "idiot proof".... so the rest of us who know how to drive/shift can't get it to do what we want it to do like we can in these older cars...

Another way our freedoms are being limited...
