K Frame Question w/ picture

So my k frame has this reinforcement bolted into. There doesn’t appear to be any rust or breaks from what I can see.

The car was originally a 273 commando car, had a 340 put in it, now has a 318 as previous owner didn’t like the lumpy cam in the 340.

With 67 having the 1 year only K frame and no 340 option(?), I’m wondering if this is just indeed reinforcement for the weight of the 340? Or if I should be concerned about the k frame. Like I said, it seems solid everywhere I can see/touch.

Damned if I wouldn't at least remove it to see what it might be hiding.

There is no additional weight of the 340 over the 273 or 318.

That same K frame will support the weight of a big block with swap mounts so additional strength shouldn’t have been the reason and most people would have never thought that.

I’m also for removing it to see what lives back there.

How thick is it? Just and added Weight bar?

Racers trick put there to fool others into thinking it is enhancing something?
