Are these thing any good or did I just dump $13 down the drain ? I figured it couldnt be anyworse then a Fram.

i use one and i think its ok bought it because i didnt want a remote filter or a 90degree adaptorthing and K&N was the only high performance filter i could find in that small size... it is still in one piece after many hour under 75plus PSI of oil preasure, the purolator stock type of filter blew up and started a realy nasty fire...

I have read some confliciting stories about the K&N filter as well as the Mobil 1 oil filter. Everyone agrees they filter better but they are also more restrictive. The controversing surounds is it better to restrict the oil flow some to achieve better filtering or not have as good filtering and have better oil flow.

Personally I shop for filters based on price. For the past couple of years I have been using Motorcraft filters. They are made by Purolator and typically cost about $2.50 at Wal-Mart. They also are spoken highly of on the oil & filter forums. The other thing I do is purchase the largest filter that will fit the vehicle. Most of the vehicles I own will take the FRAM PH8A or PH43 size filter regardless of what the factory provided. This has served me well of the past 30+ years with all my daily driven vehicles going well beyond 200,000 miles before being retired and never having had an engine failure.

BTW, if you have a filter failing at 75 psi it's a defective filter not an inadequate design. FWIW, the only filter I have ever had fail in 30+ years was a Wix that leaked where the can is swagged onto the base.

tried 2 purolator filters and they both blew apart where they are pressed close to the flatside against the engine block, i am not saying they are bad filters but i jsut canrt trust them on an engine with a highpreasure pump:( it is very dificult to put on one of those filters after two big fires in the engine compartment! the second fire was soo bad it could not bee put out with one big fire extingsher but it may bee some badluck... i use those filters one anything else:)

I feel bad that you paid $13 for a K&N oil filter...you must have gotten it at a retail outlet (I know advance is that much), I sell them all day long for $10 a piece...they work good, I tried them and liked them, but you know what? I can't justify spending the extra $7 per filter over a regular old Fram Extra Guard, which has never served me wrong...even when my oil pressure hits 80 PSI at 3500 RPM.

I too use NAPA Gold. They are made by WIX, and are also pretty cheap.

Beets waiting 4 days for it to come in the mail.

Lol...over the net, I only like to sell them by the case, and when you buy it per case, I knock it down to 9, just for that very reason. people ask me all the time to send a K&N cleaning kit to them, but I tell them to go to their local parts store and get it because my $9.00 plus shipping will be more than the $10.50 they charge. Now, if you order something else and want it thrown in there, then its another story...thats easy.
