kick down linkage question

having hard time getting kick down adjusted not sure if adjusting the right way, which way is kick down bracket on trans when kick down is fully engaged and doing its job, all the way back towards rear end or all the way forwards towards engine? thanks

depends on the linkage but in general the kickdown is supposed to be all the way forward on the trans at curb idle and somewhere in between off idle. There are two linkage types that use 2 or 3 adjustment methods depending on the year and design. The later model (dippy's) used a spring loaded deal on the transmission lever (3piece linkage). The earlier three piece linkages used a drill or metal dowel to align the parts located on the upper kickdown link bracket. The one piece linkages- Sorry ! I dont recall how to adjust them.

Throttle pressure arm on trans should be all the way BACK to it's stop at WOT.
