I have a 65 273 I just picked up with a fresh bottom end and the heads need redone badly. I have an early iron four barrel single plane manifold for it if I go that route. Or, my friend has a really nice .030 over 318 short block that has trw forged pistons, steel crank, and its all nice and balanced. He also has a freshly done set of J heads with 1.88 valves that he will sell me for 200 bucks with mp valve springs good to a 509 cam, Id use these on the 318. Im trying to get him to trade for my stroker 318 stuff I have around and my 273 stuff, he seems interested.

I just wanted to know what you guys think, go with the 273, have a crap load of work done to the heads and use the iron intake. Or go with the balanced 318 and the J heads. This is going to replace the slant six in my station wagon btw.

Thanks.

No pass on the 318 and give me his number.. lol jk

Id get that 318 with the heads throw a good cam in and a edel air gap intake with a 650 dp or 750 carb and mill the heads to bump the cr if needed.

BTW what kinda stroker stuff you got?

I was going to use the mp 268 purple shaft cam in the 273. I think it might work better in the 318 with these heads. Even with lower compression. I defiantly agree about using an air-gap intake manifold.

The 268 comp cam with 230 dur @50 Idk about that in a 273 I'm gonna use that same cam in my 318 with 302 heads and a edel air gap int

O ok that looks good others will schime in on which cam would be good for a 273 ice only experienced and learned everything for a 318

i like 318's.....built with some mild speed parts they will rev to the moon and ask for more. lol

as i am sure any smallblock mopar will do the same. :) if you can do a straight swap and not lose any money over it, go with the 318...
